#ZeroTolerance to violence against frontline workers

About the Proposed Law

Steven’s Law is designed to protect and empower frontline workers by ensuring they can perform their vital roles without fear of violence or intimidation. It introduces a mandatory minimum 12-month jail sentence for anyone who assaults a frontline worker, regardless of the offender’s state of mind.

However, this sentence can be suspended if the individual engages in government-supported programs that address anger management, substance abuse, and mental health challenges. Non-compliance with these programs will result in the remainder of the sentence being served in custody.

By relying on camera footage and witness accounts, the law removes the burden from victims to press charges themselves. The goal is to create a safe, respectful environment where frontline workers feel secure, supported, and able to focus on what they do best—helping others.

About Steven

A compassionate and dedicated human who devoted his life to serving others. Throughout his short life, Steven embodied the true spirit of care—always showing up with kindness, strength, and a deep commitment to helping those in need. He was known among colleagues, friends, and patients for his calming presence, his gentle manner, and his unwavering sense of duty. Steven chose a career that demanded courage, empathy, and sacrifice, and he gave all of himself to it with humility and grace. His dream was not just to treat injuries, but to make a difference—to be a source of comfort in people’s most vulnerable moments.

Tragically, Steven’s life was cut short in the line of duty while performing the job he loved. In April 2023, while taking a break during a night shift in Sydney, Steven was fatally attacked in an unprovoked act of violence. He was just 29 years old, newly married, and eagerly anticipating the birth of his daughter. His death sent shockwaves through the community and the ripples continue to deeply impact the entire frontline workforce.
